Virginia Lee Cox, age 87, of Port St. Lucie, Florida (formerly of Lawrenceville, Illinois), passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Wickshire Assisted Living in Port St. Lucie, Florida. She was born on July 31, 1936 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the daughter of Zenon ‘Jack’ and Nancy Mae (Heath) Eagle.

Virginia was a wonderful cook, catering numerous Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for people in Lawrenceville. She was known for her yeast rolls, which were in great demand. She made candy and fudges, which she sold at festivals and events as ‘Aunt Ginny’s Fudge’. Virginia was a very good seamstress, and made wedding gowns for her nieces, along with their wedding cakes. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was cherished by all and known simply as ‘Aunt Sissy’.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Charles Eagle and Ray Eagle; and two sisters, Opal Caudell and Pauline Robertson.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Cox and wife, Connie of Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Lee Cox and wife, Mary of Port St. Lucie, Florida; three grandchildren, Eric Cox and Nicolette Taylor of Oklahoma and Christopher Cox of Florida; and four great-grandchildren, Felicity and Kasyn Taylor of Oklahoma and Hunter and Gunner Cox of Florida.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 03, 2024 at 11:00 AM CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois and may be viewed at the following link:

Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM CDT at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
