Victoria J. Highsmith Cogswell, age 72, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She was born on April 12, 1950 in Princeton, Indiana, the daughter of Victor and Alberta ‘Sparky’ (Foss) Highsmith. She was married to John Cogswell, Sr., and he preceded her in death in 2018.
Victoria worked for Illinois Department of Human Services for many years. She attended the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing the piano.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; three brothers, Everett McKinney, Charles Leo Hopper, and Leonard Hopper; six sisters, Loretta Shutts, Patricia Vestal, Louvenia McKinney, Betty McKinney, Norma Jean Hopper, and Linda Lou Hopper; and one daughter, Julie Wesley.
Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Nettleton and husband, Scott of Lawrenceville, Illinois; five step-children, Kathy Milligan of Greenville, Kentucky, Johnnie Cogswell of Bridgeport, Illinois, Mary Davis of Berryville, Illinois, Doad Cogswell and wife, Crystal of Berryville, Illinois, and Sally Gerold of Lawrenceville, Illinois; three brothers, George McKinney and wife, Mary, Mark McKinney and wife, Linda, Joseph McKinney and wife, Sharon, and Oakley McKinney and wife, Mary; one sister-in-law, Johnnie Mae McKinney; one granddaughter, Jo-Belle Charland, and husband, Jeremy; and two great-grandchildren, Joseph Lee and Raven Highsmith.
A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, June 01, 2022 at 1:00 PM CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM CDT at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Orio Cemetery.
