Terrence ‘Terry’ A. Hunter

Terrence ‘Terry’ A. Hunter, age 79, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. He was born on September 03, 1943 in Washington, Indiana, the son of Adrain and Elaine (Akester) Hunter. After the death of his parents, he was raised by Walter and Ella Mae Hunter. He married Sherry Pinkstaff on August 30, 1975, and she preceded him in death on September 23, 2002. He married Nancy Harrington on July 07, 2003, and she preceded him in death on January 24, 2014.

Terry served his country in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. He was as a custodian for

Unit #20 School District, an orderly at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, and an IHSA basketball and volleyball referee. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, playing Bingo, coloring, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, where he was a member of the Color Guard and served as Commander.

Preceding him in death were his parents; first and second wives; and one grandson, Hank Odin Hunter.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Hunter, Jr. and wife, Shelli of Leesburg, Virginia and Martin ‘Marty’ Hunter and wife, Julie of Flat Rock, Illinois; one step-daughter, Julie Ann Mendenhall and husband, Tony of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one brother, Larry Hunter and wife, Marla of Princeton, Indiana; two sisters, Jane Deckard and husband, Walt of Fort Myers, Florida and Carolyn Sue Jones of Owensville, Indiana; and six grandchildren, Emily Elizabeth Hunter, Karriann Hunter, Shane Hunter, Ryan Hunter, Bradley Churchwell, and Ryan Mendenhall.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 4:00 PM CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM CDT at the funeral home. Following the service, military rites will be conducted at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service, and private burial will be in the Jones Cemetery at a later date.
