Susan L. Akers

Susan L. Akers, age 64, of Sumner, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on September 15, 1957 in West Virginia, the daughter of Charles and Gerda (Schmitt) Rousey. She was married to James Akers, and he survives.

Susan was a homemaker and a caseworker for DCFS. Her hobbies included crafting, cooking, gardening, dirt track racing, traveling, as well as spending time with her family, grandchildren, and animals. Her family will remember her as being caring and outgoing.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Johnny Rousey and Dee Rousey.

Survivors include her husband; five children, Bradley Morehead of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Charles (Lisa Griffith) Morehead of St. Francisville, Illinois, Michael (Danielle) Morehead of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Shelly Warner of Flat Rock, Illinois, and Wendy (Lawrance Schnell) Dunfee of Sumner, Illinois; one brother, Chuck (Lisa) Rousey of Washington, Indiana; one sister, Patti Fountain of Granite City, Illinois; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, October 01, 2021 at 1:00 PM CDT at the Bridgeport City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois.
