Sherry Baldwin Obituary

Cheryl Anne “Sherry” Baldwin, age 73, passed away on Friday, July 3rd, 2020, in Normal, Illinois. She was born on September 24th, 1946, in Vincennes, Indiana, to Roy and Margie (Bowman) Boles. Sherry graduated from Bridgeport Township High School, in 1964.

After high school, Sherry worked the switchboard at the telephone company, in Lawrenceville, for a couple of years. She then moved to Florida, in 1966.  She worked selling magazines and being a lifeguard for a year. When she moved back from Florida, in 1967, she started working check out at the Red & White grocery store. She married George Hite Baldwin, Jr. on June 15, 1968. They had George Hite Baldwin, III in 1969. She was active in the local chapter of the American Cancer Society and P.E.O. She helped run the concession stand for Little League Football for many years. Sherry loved being the host for parties and all of little Hite’s friends.

In the early 90’s, Sherry took care of her mom when she was diagnosed with cancer. Sherry and Hite divorced, Marge passed away, and Sherry decided to set out on a new adventure. In 1993, she decided to move to L.A. and be in the movies. After appearing as an extra, in a few movies, she heard that there was a lot of filming going on, in Las Vegas. So, she moved to Las Vegas, in 1995.  She continued being an “extra” for a few years. She was then given the opportunity to work “on the other side of the camera” as a production assistant. That led her to the Baskow Agency. The Baskow Agency not only booked actors and extras for movies, commercials, music videos, etc., but also was a destination management company. They would book hotels, meals, transportation, and entertainment for conventions that came to town. Sherry worked for The Baskow Agency and Host Las Vegas for many years. She was great at her job and received awards from her employers and clients. She loved meeting so many people, as they traveled in and out of Las Vegas. In 2017, she decided to sell her place in Las Vegas and be a “gypsy”.

She got in her convertible and traveled all over the country, staying with friends and family. She said that so many friends had come to visit her while she lived in Las Vegas, that she was going to return the favor. After becoming a fixture in the bleachers at her grandson’s high school baseball and football games for the past couple of years, Sherry set out on her final adventure. She became a “house mom” at the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house, at Illinois State University. It was the perfect location, only about an hour away from her sister, Patti.

Sherry was a jack of all trades; whether that be knitting a warm scarf, making her famous lasagna, singing every word to every Jimmy Buffett song, telling several great stories, or always striving to put a smile on someone’s face. She was a light in every room she entered, and she always knew how to hold everyone’s attention. She was funny, loving, beautiful and had the biggest heart for anyone that she came into contact with.

Sherry is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Hite and Shannon Baldwin; her grandsons, Jack and Case Baldwin; her sister, Patti Schlichte; her nephew, Nate Schlichte; her cousin, Mike Bowman and his wife, Jan; and many other family and friends.

Sherry is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Marge Boles and her brother-in-law, Mark Schlichte.
