Sharon Phillips Obituary

Sharon Bellinger Gillespie Phillips, age 70, of Terre Haute, Indiana, a former Bridgeport residence, died Friday, January 10, 2020 at her daughter’s residence in Terre Haute, Indiana.

She was born March 26, 1949 in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Leo and Tressie Shick Bellinger.

She married David Gillespie on May 31, 1969, and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1993.

Sharon was the Executive Director of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce for many years.  She previously worked at the Richland Co. Hospital in respiratory therapy.  In later years, she worked for Team Energy and United Health Care.  She was a member of the Sumner Christian Church and Lawrenceville Rotary Club.  She enjoyed playing bingo and watching game shows. Sharon had an infectious smile and personality and made many friends throughout her life. However, Sharon’s favorite activity was spending time with her grandsons and teaching them how to cook.  She loved listening to her son-in-law play his guitar.

Sharon was proceeded in death by her husband; parents; and one brother, Robert Bellinger.

Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Bristow and husband, Roger of Terre Haute, Indiana and two grandchildren, Charlie and Zane Smith. She is also survived by two cousins who were more like sisters, Lucretia Prout of Smyrna, Tennessee and Beverly Pearson of Carmel, Indiana.
