Sandra "Sandy" Moshinsky

Sandra “Sandy” Moshinsky, age 86, of Crown Point, Indiana (formerly of Gary, Indiana and Old Hickory, Tennessee) passed away peacefully at St. Anthony Majestic Care on March 25, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born August 2, 1937 in Denison Township, Illinois, the daughter of James Luke Moore and Nadine (Dillon) Moore. She married Herman “Hy” Moshinsky on October 10, 1973, and he preceded her in death on August 20, 2000.

Preceding her in death were her parents; beloved nephew, James Luke Moore; and her constant companion for several years, her dog Charlie.

Sandy worked for many years at Lake Ridge Schools (Black Oak Elementary and Calumet High School) in the office, where she had countless friends and helped many students find their way. After retiring from Lake Ridge Schools in 1997, she moved to Old Hickory, Tennessee, where she worked several years at Walgreens enjoying all of her customers and coworkers; helping to organize holiday parties and never meeting a stranger. After fully retiring from working, she moved back to Northwest Indiana in 2016. Sandy was a very social person and took great joy in helping others. She loved her family deeply and was immensely proud of all their accomplishments.

Survivors include two children: Jeff (Amy) Moshinsky of Lebanon, Tennessee and Sara (Josh) Velasquez of Schererville, Indiana; three grandchildren: Nadine Velasquez of Chicago, Illinois, Kendall Moshinsky of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Cade Moshinsky of Lebanon, Tennessee; one brother: Terry (Judy) Moore of Gary, Indiana; one sister: Mona Moore of Independence, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.   

The funeral will be conducted on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 11:00 am CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation is also on Friday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am CDT at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Zion Cemetery.
