Roger C. Leighty, 93, passed from this life on Friday June 11, 2010 at his residence. He was born on May 27, 1917 in Dennison Township, the son of William Carson and Myrtle Ann (Gher) Leighty. On June 27, 1936 he married Edna M. Shuppert who preceded him in death on November 25, 1988. Surviving are twin sons: Donald Lee (JoAnn) Leighty of Danville, IL and Ronald Lee (Linda) Leighty of Mt. Carmel, IL, a daughter: Stephanie Ann (Tim) Wilson of Moline, IL, grandchildren: Jeffrey (Arlene) Leighty, Marc (Karla) Leighty, Brad (Jill) Leighty, Amy McGill, Ashley Wilson, Erin (Jesse) Hunt, Emily Wilson, great-grandchildren: Peyton and Kelsey McGill, Anne, Katherine, and Jack Leighty, Nick and Abbey Leighty, and Mason Hunt. Also surviving are a sister: Jayne David of Olney, IL, and a brother: William G. (Betty) Leighty of Oldsmar, FL, and a very close friend: Joan Childress, and nephews and nieces.Roger was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two infant grandchildren.During WWII Roger worked in a TNT Plant in Joliet, IL. After the war he and his brother were owners of Leighty Brothers Wholesale Grocers and Hudson Food Market which Roger managed. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial to follow at Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is also Tuesday from 9:00am until the service hour of 11:00am. Memorial contributions may be given to the Good Samaritan Hospice.
