Rex B. McCoy

Rex B. McCoy, age 75, of Sumner, Illinois passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022. He was born on December 02, 1946 in Vincennes, Indiana, the son of Basil E. and Esther A. (Wells) McCoy. He married Sandra K. Felton on July 27, 1987, and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2019.

Rex graduated from Bridgeport Township High School in 1964. He received his Associate’s Degree in Electronics Technology and Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Technology from Southern Illinois University in 1969. Rex began working at the Lawrenceville Greenhouse in March of 1973, and worked there for a total of 39 years, except for two and half years while he was the administrator of Ridgeview Nursing Home in Oblong. He was a member of the Island Free Methodist Church. His hobbies included fishing in his boat and riding around the countryside. He had a great singing voice and was an avid lover of music. He played piano, organ, and guitar.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; and one brother, Marion McCoy.

Survivors include one brother, Col. Robert McCoy and wife, Carol Joan of Georgia; one sister, Estella Stout of Iowa; one brother-in-law, Ronald Felton of Olney, Illinois; one nephew, Douglas Stout of Iowa; and five nieces, Mary Lou Darby of Florida, Leslie McCoy of Ohio, Lisa Metcalfe of Georgia, Rhonda Blasi of Kansas, and Dottie Felton of Kansas.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 10:00 AM CST at the Chauncey Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Island Free Methodist Church. Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
