Paul Barrett Obituary

Paul S. Barrett, age 95, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, December 07, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on May 17, 1926 in Metropolis, Illinois, the son of Leonard and Nellie (Clark) Barrett. He married Mary Williams on August 06, 1946, and she preceded him in death on February 26, 1995.

Paul worked for the GTE Telephone Company. He served his country in the United States Army, where he was the recipient of the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European American Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal, and Purple Heart Medal. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrenceville. He enjoyed building clocks, fishing, wintering in Texas with his many friends that he met in Bensten Grove Easy Riders Bicycle Club, and spending time with his daughter in Alaska.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; one daughter, Linda Powell; one stillborn brother; and two sisters, a stillborn and Lillian L. Stallard.

Survivors include several nephews and nieces. Debbie and Shindy Roberts will always treasure the years that she and her husband, along with children, Jerrod and Justin, were privileged to spend with Paul. Paul delighted in the many visits from his great-great-nephews, Harlan and Lewis and great-great-niece, Ivy.

Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 1:00 PM CST at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery, with military rites, Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or First Christian Church. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
