Maxine Green

Maxine Green, age 96, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Illinois. She was born on June 03, 1927 in Bridgeport, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Essie (Freeman) Wells. She married Bruce D. Green on October 29, 1946, and he preceded her in death on August 21, 2002.

Maxine was a Navy wife for 20 plus years, and then became a farm wife. She also worked as an aide in the evenings at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, as well as the Sumner and Bridgeport Nursing Homes. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death her parents; husband; four brothers, Earl ‘Sonny’ Wells, Jr., Bill Wells, Jerry Wayne Wells; and Lyman ‘Bub’ Wells; three sisters, Nora Folck, Norma Jean Jones, and Ruth Ann Gosnell; and two granddaughters, Crystal and Angeline.

Survivors include two sons, Ron Green of Chauncey, Illinois and Alan Green of Ashaway, Rhode Island; one brother, Richard Wells of Chauncey, Illinois; two grandchildren, Jason Green of Pasadena, California and Matthew Green of Westerly, Rhode Island; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM CDT at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM CDT at the funeral home.
