Maurice S. Wheatley

Maurice Sheridan Wheatley, age 90, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at United Methodist Village-North Campus. He was born August 14, 1921 in Vincennes, IN, the son of Oscar and Ruth (Frauman)Wheatley. He married June Mayer on March 26, 1950. Maurice was a graduate of Vincennes Lincoln High School and the Fred Archer School of Photography. He worked at Texaco Refinery until his retirement in 1984. Maurice was a WWII veteran. His parents, three brothers Howard Wheatley who died in WWII, Sheridan Wheatley, and Bernard Wheatley and one sister Lula Belle Tepe, preceded Maurice in death. Survivors include his wife, June, of Lawrenceville, one son Maurice Wheatley, Jr. of Duluth, GA, two daughters Shirley Bristow (Glenn) of Chatham, IL and Nancy Miller (Tom) of Evansville, IN; two brothers Leon Wheatley of Petersburg, IN and Richard Wheatley of Greenville, TX, sister-in-law Zulieme Brown of Houston, TX, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 pm Wednesday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lawrenceville City Cemetery with military rites. Memorials may be made to the Activity Department at the United Methodist Village-North Campus, Lawrenceville, IL with envelopes available at the funeral home.
