Madeline Piper Obituary

Madeline Lolita Piper, age 94, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Saturday, December 05, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana, due to complications from COVID-19. She was born on April 26, 1926 in Richland County, Illinois, the daughter of William Edward and Katherine (O’Keefe) Boyd. She married Clair A. Piper on April 26, 1944, and he preceded her in death on December 30, 1997.

Madeline had worked at the Brown Shoe Company in Olney and was a homemaker. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Vincennes and the Ladies Home Extension. She helped raise Patty’s children, Shane Michael Griggs and Shaun Patrick Griggs.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Clair; one son, Stanley Piper; two brothers, Wilmot ‘Bud’ Boyd and Brainard Boyd; and three sisters, Maxine Shroyer, Lovina DeFreeze, and Shirley Kuney.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Piper of Limon, Colorado, Kenneth Piper of Olney, Illinois, and Michael Piper of Monticello, Utah; two daughters, Sandra K. Brasseur-Fraser and husband, Andy of Vincennes, Indiana, and Patty Piper-Griggs of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one brother, William ‘Billy’ Boyd of South Hampton Township, New Jersey; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; as well as her three pets, Daisey, Little One, and Buffy.

Private services for the family will be conducted. Everyone is welcome to view the service on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 2:00 PM CST with the following link: https://www.facebook.com/Emmons-Macey-Steffey-Funeral-Home-Burial-Cremation-Services-241234759332208/. A public burial will be conducted following the service at the Sumner Cemetery. Extended family and friends are invited to a drive through visitation on Thursday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Please approach the funeral home from south 12th Street, and you will be directed by staff to pass through under the awning.
