Leatha Pickering Obituary

Leatha F. Pickering, age 95, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born on June 30, 1924 in Bridgeport, Illinois, the daughter of Jesse R. and Oma (Crouch) Malone. She married Paul E. Pickering on August 14, 1955, and he preceded her in death on March 09, 2006.

In Leatha’s earlier years, she worked at George’s Ice Cream Shop. She then worked at Golden Rule and West Grove. Her memberships included the First Baptist Church, Business and Professional Women’s Foundation, Eagles, and VFW Auxiliary. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She enjoyed bowling and was an avid reader. She loved her family and loved to spend time with them.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Paul; one son, Victor E. Leach; and three sisters.

Survivors include her three sons, Wayne Pickering and wife, Melanie of Houston, Texas, Rick Pickering and wife, Sharon of Annapolis, Maryland, and Jim Pickering and wife, Joy of Sumner, Illinois; four granddaughters, Stacey Gonzalez, Kim Pickering, Rachel Fulks and husband, Tim, and Jami Clark; three grandsons, David Pickering and wife, Claire, Scott Pickering, and Joey Land and wife, Katlyn; four great-granddaughters; and three great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 02, 2020 at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. The service will be private, but will be available for viewing at 11:00 AM on the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home Burial & Cremation Services Facebook page, which can be found with the following link: https://www.facebook.com/Emmons-Macey-Steffey-Funeral-Home-Burial-Cremation-Services-241234759332208/. Extended family and friends are invited to drive past the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM in honor of Leatha and her family. Please approach the funeral home from south 12th Street, and you will be directed by the staff to pass through under the awning. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
