Julie Thomas Obituary

Julie B. Thomas, 65, of Vincennes, Indiana passed away Friday, April 3, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.

She was born March 20, 1955 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the daughter of Donald L. and Iva Mae (Chism) Carter. On September 17, 1977 she married Tom Thomas and he survives.

Julie was a Registered Nurse on the Critical Care Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was hand picked by Dr. Louis O. Dayson in 1983 to come to Cardiology, and eventually became the Director. With her persistence, the Cardiology Department became the Dayson Heart Center. She was a nurse that was very knowledgeable in every aspect of nursing. She listened very well to everyone, then would figure out a solution to every problem that entered her office doorway. She truly was a great person, a wonderful nurse and a true friend to anyone that needed her. She stayed in contact with her co-workers and would meet them for lunch at least once a month. She made the Dayson Heart Center what it is today. She was referred as the Den Mother by Dr. Watson, and there won’t be anyone big enough to fill her shoes. She and Tom were definitely a true match. She always referred to him as her best friend and he felt the same way. In her youth, she and her family attended the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She enjoyed gardening, cooking shows, being at home, spending time with family, and taking trips.

Along with her husband, Tom, she is survived by a sister, Jeanne Steffey and her husband, Doyle of rural Lawrenceville, Illinois; a brother, Jeffrey Carter and his wife, Sarah of Newton, Illinois; nieces and nephews, Seth and Ethan Carter, Carter Steffey, Casey Davidson and her husband, Clint, Kelly Statten and her husband, Adam, Laura Macke and her husband, Lucas, and Michael Thomas and his wife, Jen; and great-nieces and nephews, Erin, Emma, Eve, and Elliott Macke, Alexis and Cassidy Thomas, and Fletcher Davidson.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Burial will be at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. The service will be private, but will be available for viewing at 11:00am CST on the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home and Cremation Services Facebook page.
