Jerry Lee Hobbs, age 86, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on April 05, 1935 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, the son of Stanley and Beatrice (Trout) Hobbs. He married Arlene ‘Sparky’ Tillery on April 18, 1957, and she preceded him in death on February 22, 1993.
Jerry worked for Witco Chemical Corporation, Texaco Refinery, Indian Refinery, and Rogers Group, Inc. He served his country in the United States Army Reserve and then the Illinois Army National Guard. He was a licensed football and basketball official for the Illinois High School Association for over 20 years, and refereed at the junior college level for a short time. He enjoyed coaching minor league and little league baseball over the years. His memberships included Central Christian Church, Elk’s, VFW, as well as the Eagles, where he served on the board.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; and granddaughter, Shannon Darnell.
Survivors include three sons, Gregory Hobbs and wife, Tanara of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Courtney Hobbs of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Scott Hobbs and wife, Mindy of Greenwood, Indiana; two daughters, Toni Hart and husband, Terry of Lawrenceville, Illinois and Julie Whittington and husband, Kirk of Hendersonville, Tennessee; one brother, Stanley Hobbs and wife, Sandy of Port St. Joe, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 1:00 PM CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and may be viewed with the following link: https://www.facebook.com/emmonsmaceysteffey. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Lawrence County Little League or Lawrenceville Downtown Revitalization.
