James Robert Mefford, 93, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Friday, March 20, 2020 at his residence.
He was born December 31, 1926 in Wyandotte, Michigan, the son of James Ellsworth and Lois Emma (Kensler) Mefford. He married Patsy Jones in 1949, and she survives.
Bob was a postal worker, and served as Lawrenceville Postmaster from 1976 until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrenceville, Illinois, where he served as Deacon, Chairman of the Board, and Trustee. He served in the United States Navy. His memberships included the Kiwanis Club, Elks, and American Legion. He served on the Police Pension Fund Board. He enjoyed playing golf.
Along with his wife Patsy, he is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Schrey and her husband, Steve of Olney, Illinois; a son, Randy Mefford of Lawrenceville, Illinois; a half-sister, Patricia Chansler of Abingdon, Illinois; a half-brother, David Mefford and his wife, Beverly of Lawrenceville, Illinois; three grandchildren, Aaron Schrey and wife, Natalie, Brett Schrey and wife, Casey Parker, and Jennifer Holler and husband, Travis; three step-grandchildren, Tiffany Wampler and her husband, Scott, Brock Kessler and his wife, Abby, and Jamie Goss and her husband, Larry; and two great-grandchildren, Lincoln and London Holler.
Private family services will be conducted Wednesday at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
