Gregory D. Rice

Gregory Dee Rice, age 64, of Robinson, Illinois passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on December 08, 1957 in Sullivan, Indiana, the son of Robert E. and Edith ‘Edie’ L. (Hoover) Rice. He married Jeanne Steffey on August 30, 1980, and she survives.

Greg graduated from Vincennes University with his Associates Degree in Electronics, and worked for the Flat Rock Telephone Company. He farmed with his father, and eventually took over the family farm. He attended the Birds Free Methodist Church, and was recently baptized. Greg was a member of the Crawford County Soil and Water Board for 30 years. He was a collector of trains, and had a special interest in airplanes and trains. He enjoyed shopping and eating out with Jeanne, as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Gary Rice; mother-in-law, Hazel Steffey; and one brother-in-law, Dwight Rose.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; two children, Heather Rice of Flat Rock, Illinois and Justin Rice and wife, Stacey of Terre Haute, Indiana; one brother, George Rice and wife, Beth of Robinson, Illinois; three grandchildren, Skylar Stout, Lane Rice, and Luna Rice; father-in-law, Mandell Steffey of Flat Rock, Illinois; two brothers-in-law, Neal Steffey and wife, Sandy of Palestine, Illinois and David Steffey and wife, Jill of Brookville, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Janet Rose of Columbus, Indiana; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 1:00 PM CDT at the First Missionary Baptist Church, located at 208 1st Street, Flat Rock, Illinois. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM CDT at the church. Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Birds Free Methodist Church.
