Fred Mahin, Sr. Obituary

Fred M. Mahin, Sr., of Lawrenceville went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on June 08, 1935 in Allendale, Illinois, to Lloyd C. Mahin and Hazel (Thompson) Mahin Jones. He married Carroll Sue Claycomb on July 23, 1954 in the Pilgram Holiness (Wesleyan) Church in Bridgeport. Carroll, a devoted pastor’s wife and wonderful mother, was called to her heavenly home on July 03, 2011.

Fred began working as a paperboy at the age of 11, for Scott’s Drug and News Store, and at the age of 14, he was employed by Roy and Hazel Rucker as a printer’s devil for the Bridgeport Leader, where he worked for nearly 18 years. Later, Fred was employed by Bett Mae Moore as an advertising manager and commercial printer for the Lawrenceville County News, where he worked for seven years. During his years as a printer, he also became a minister preaching his first sermon at the age of 16. Through home study courses, he was ordained into the ministry and pastored 13 churches in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. Fred and Carroll Sue shared 60 years in ministry and retired on August 15, 2010. Along with pastoring, Fred drove school buses for several schools and retired from bus driving with 19 years of experience. Even after retirement, Fred continued his ministry holding revival meetings, preaching for pastors on vacation, performing weddings, conducting funeral services, and sharing where called.

Fred was preceded in death by his faithful wife of 57 years, Carroll Sue (Claycomb) Mahin; his parents; one half-brother, James ‘Jimmy’ C. Mahin; one son, Melvin Myrle Mahin; and one daughter, Cinda Lewis.

Survivors include four children, Brenda Nesler, Glenda Rotramel and husband, James, Linda Patton and late husband, James, and Fred Myrle Mahin, Jr. and wife, Tamara; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
