Donald Piper Obituary

Donald Verl Piper, age 81, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Lodge of the Wabash in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on January 16, 1940, in Sumner, Illinois, the son of Burnis and Ada (Steuber) Piper. He married Anna Alberta Gunzel on December 24, 1964, and she survives.

Donald work at Roadmaster in Olney, Illinois for many years. He attended the Hopewell United Methodist Church. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, taking long drives in the country, eating out, St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, and being with his family.

Preceding Donald in death were his parents; one son, Timothy Piper; one brother, Dewey Piper; and one sister, Mary Line.

Survivors include his wife, Alberta; two children, Burnis E. Piper and partner, Sherry Sloan of Sumner, Illinois and Judith Ann Schwarz and husband, William of Centralia, Illinois; one sister Bernice Wasylik of Bothell, Washington; two grandchildren, Morgan Nehrt and Veronica Schwarz; three great-grandchildren, Warric Nehrt, Fennic Nehrt, and Wulfric Nehrt; two nieces, Robyn Mortensen and Krista Neihls; and two nephews, Gregory Wasylik and Doug Line.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. CST at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour of 1:00 p.m. CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to DaVita Vincennes Dialysis Center or American Kidney Fund.
