Dewey Nash Obituary

Dewey Ray Nash, age 83, of Albion, Illinois passed away on Thursday, April 01, 2021 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi, Illinois. He was born on January 25, 1938 in Bridgeport, Illinois, the son of Ernest and Elma (Poland) Nash. He married Naomi Ruth Carlson on November 26, 1982, and she survives.

In Dewey’s earlier years, he worked as a carpenter’s helper for several years building houses in the area, at the paper mill in Vincennes, where he was known as ‘Preacher’, and helped his cousin sell tools. After he married Naomi, they moved to Albion and he worked as the custodian for 20 years at the Edward County Schools. He enjoyed woodworking, and made wooden toys, bird houses, bird feeders, and small furniture. He attended the Griffin Christian Church in Griffin, Indiana and was a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Sumner. He served his country in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War, near the Berlin Wall.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, an infant and Don Nash and wife, MaryLou Nash; one niece, Cynda Markanich; one nephew, Danny Bonewits; father and mother-in-law, Elton and Edna Carlson; and one brother-in-law, David Carlson.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi; one nephew, Donny Nash and significant other, Kim of Vincennes, Indiana; four great-nephews and great-nieces, Allison Nash, Clinton Nash, Olivia Nash, and James Bonewits; one great-great-niece, Autumn; four brothers-in-law, Steve Carlson and wife, Denise, Daniel Carlson and wife, Carleen, Timothy Carlson and wife, Patty, and Philip Carlson; two sisters-in-law, Carol Carlson and Becky Dean and husband, Don; several cousins; as well as numerous nephews-in-law, nieces-in-law, great-nephews-in-law, and great-nieces-in-law.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 07, 2021 at 11:00 AM CDT at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois, and may be viewed with the following link: https://www.facebook.com/emmonsmaceysteffey. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM CDT at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery, with military rites. Memorial donations may be made to the Great Lakes Christian College at 6211 West Willow Highway, Lansing, MI 48917.
