Betty Mieure Obituary

Betty Lou Mieure, age 99, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born on July 07, 1921 in St. Francisville, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Stella (Stewart) Mayfield. She married George W. Mieure on July 12, 1942 and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1995.

Betty worked at Corky Davis’ news stand. She then worked for Golden Rule Insurance, where she held several positions, with the switchboard being her last position. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville. Her other memberships included TOPS and the VFW Auxiliary. She wrote poetry and was an avid reader. She enjoyed crafts, decorating, her collection of Santa Claus’ and snowmen, shopping, and Sunday lunch at one of her favorite restaurants.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; two brothers, Ivan and Claude Mayfield; and two sisters, Martha A. Senters, and Doris Rigg.

Survivors include her three children, David B. Mieure and his wife, Paula, Julie Astrike, and Bonnie Rose all of Lawrenceville, Illinois; four grandchildren, Eric Mieure, David Mieure, Robin Downing, and Jennifer Axley; five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society or the United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
