Berniece Lois Smith, Route 3, Sumner, IL, passed away Wednesday, June 2, at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, IL. She had just recently celebrated her 97th birthday. She was the daughter of Randolph and Della Folkers Pinkstaff, and was born May 6, 1913 in Mulberry Grove, IL. A longtime member of the Island Free Methodist Church, she was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years, and very active in the Womens Missionary Organization. Berniece was also a former Lawrence County Unit 10 School District cook at Petty School, and a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. Survivors include three sons, Harold Smith and wife Linda of Martinsville, IL, Carl Smith and wife Julie of Sumner, and David Smith and wife Hope of Kalamazoo, MI, three sisters, Mrs. Dana Troyer of Louisville, KY, Mrs. Margaret Lloyd of Lake Villa, IL, and Mrs. Helen Sellers of Lake Villa, IL, one brother, Mr. James Pinkstaff of McHenry, IL, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and husband Scott Smith.
