Alberta Brian Obituary

Alberta Lee ‘Birdie’ Brian, age 65, of Sumner, Illinois passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on October 21, 1954 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Evelyn (Griffin) Jackson. She married David Brian on June 18, 1971 and he survives.

Alberta worked for DHIA for 18 years, and then retired from the Olney Daily Mail. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Vincennes. She enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, taking care of any pests that bothered her garden or chickens, playing board games with her grandchildren, as well as playing ball with her dog, Rowdy. She loved to cook Sunday dinners for her family and any friends that may have shown up.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, John Dorney, Gene Dorney, and Leroy Jackson; two sisters, Della Riley and Irene Dorney; and one grandson, Christopher Kocher.

Survivors include her husband, Dave; two sons, Albert (Lena) Brian of Bridgeport, Illinois and Michael (Heather) Brian of Sumner, Illinois; three brothers, Robert (Shelby) Jackson of Claremont, Illinois, Stanley (Mary) Dorney of West Salem, Illinois, and Dale (Irene) Dorney of Keensburg, Illinois; two sisters, Stella (Jim) Brian of Sumner, Illinois and Rose (Raymond) Riley of McLeansboro, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Haylie (Erick) Wheeler, Hannah (Ashley) Lynch, Jesse Brian, Jodie Brian, Bradley (Lauren) Padgett, Jordan (Annie) Padgett, and Karsyn Brian; and two great-grandchildren, Remi Padgett and Jaxon Lynch.

No formal services will be conducted at this time. A memorial dinner at the Lawrence County 4-H Center for friends and family will be announced at a later date, after COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. Memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice. Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
