Wilma Tewell

Wilma Tewell, 80, of Lawrenceville passed away Saturday March 21, 2009 at her residence.She was born December 27, 1928 in Lawrence County, IL the daughter of L.M. and Martha Jane (Shoulders) Goff. On August 24, 1946 she married Donald Tewell. He passed away January 20, 2000.Wilma was a homemaker. She was also bookkeeper for Don Tewell Masonry in Lawrenceville. She was a member of the Highway Church of God where she was the secretary and Treasurer of the Ladies Group. She drove the church bus, and taught sunday school for 40 years.She is survived by 2 sons: Roger and his wife Phyllis Tewell of Bridgeport, IL, Scott Tewell of Mt. Carmel, IL, 4 daughters: Donna Organ of Lawrenceville, IL, Kris and her husband Dwayne Sovdi of Pinkstaff, IL, Sherry and her husband Rod Harder of Flora, IL, 3 sisters: Dorothy Hamilton of Florida, Wanda Walton of Flat Rock, IL, Bessie Grigsby of Alabama, 14 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. 2 sisters are deceased.The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00am at the Highway Church of God. Burial will follow at May Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00pm at the church.Wilma is known be her friends and family as "the Purple Lady". You are invited to honor her memory by wearing purple to her services.Memorial donations may be given to the church.
