Biography Wilma E. Kennedy, age 94, of Lawrenceville, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville. She was born July 10, 1920, in Jackson County, Illinois, the daughter of Marion Adam and Nettie Mae (Jay) Ditzler. She married Kenneth P. Kennedy on January 23, 1943, and he passed away May 2, 1996. Wilma was a teacher for 20 years in Sparta, Illinois. She was a member of Illinois Retired Teacher's Association, a member of United Methodist Women where she served as treasurer for 15 years in Lawrenceville and for 12 years in Sparta. She was also a member of American Association of University of Women. Wilma served as an evangelistic musician and youth worker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville where she served as choir director for 8-1/2 years. Preceding Wilma in death were her parents, her husband Kenneth, and one sister Julia. Survivors include one brother John Ditzler of Lakewood, Washington; two sisters Marian Powers of Gulfport, Mississippi, and Mildred Lilienkamp of Huntsville, Alabama and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the service hour Friday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Ditzler Family Cemetery in rural Ava, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville.
