William H. Smith

William Herman Smith, 77, of Sumner, IL passed away Sunday January 12, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born February 9, 1936 in Loogoottee, IN the son of Roscoe L. and Janice M. (Beasley) Smith. He married Shirley Heath on September 5, 1970 in Lawrenceville, IL. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter: Janice Knight of Jacksonville, FL, two brothers: Roger Smith of Danville, IL, Jerry Smith of Tuscon, AZ, a brother-in-law: Glen Heath of Lawrenceville, IL, three sisters-in-law: Fay and Bill Hawkins of Lawrenceville, Frances and Roger James of Springfield, IL, Kay and Neal Whittaker of Idaho, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son: Heath Smith. He worked and retired as an Ordnanceman at the Crane Naval Station. He served in the United States Air Force. He attended the Central Christian Church, a member of the Free Masons, in Odon, IN, and was a lifelong member of the VFW. A Memorial Service will be conducted Friday at 11:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00am until the service hour of 11:00am.
