William Eugene 'Gene' Painter

William Eugene ‘Gene’ Painter, age 92, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at BridgePointe Health Campus in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on December 21, 1931 in Knox County, Indiana, the son of William Herman and Mary Catherine (Riley) Painter.

Gene served his country in the United States Army, during the Korean War. He was a farmer, and retired in 2014. His memberships included the American Legion and 40&8. He enjoyed watching baseball and bowling, playing cards, was a jokester.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Bob Painter and Ronald Painter.

Survivors include three children, Patti Griffin and husband, Jim of Flat Rock, Illinois, Lawrence Painter and wife, Raeshelle of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Cyndi Sutton of Berne, Indiana; five grandchildren, Abby Carter and husband, Mike, Brandon Blann, Barbara J. Prine, Blaze Brooks and wife, Amber, and Jenny Keller and husband, Jon; and three great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lawrence County Little League or the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
