William David Delong

William David DeLong, age 79, a lifelong resident of his hometown and birthplace of Hammond, Indiana passed away on May 19, 2024.

William, known to the family as Uncle Billy or UB, received his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science at Purdue University and his Master’s Degree from Illinois Institute of Technology.

Uncle Billy enjoyed lifetime hobbies in railroading, model railroading, and astronomy. He was a member of a local model railroad club he founded. Uncle Billy would even frequently jump in his vehicle to, what we called, go train chasing which could take him almost anywhere in the country.

William was preceded in death by his parents: William and Jessie DeLong; sisters: Dorothy Brinks, Mary Pinkstaff, and Helen Michael; as well as nephew: William James Michael.

Uncle Billy is survived by nephews: Randall Michael and Victor Michael; grand-nephew: James Michael; and grand-nieces: Jennifer Michael-Vargas and Jessica Michael.

Uncle Billy was affectionately referred to by UB to his entire family of grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Visitation for William David DeLong will be on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, located at 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, Indiana, followed by time of sharing at 6 p.m.

William's final resting place will be in the Derr Cemetery in Lawrenceville, Illinois on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 11:00am CDT. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
