Wilbur E. Large, age 85, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born May 25, 1926 in Crossville, Illinois the son of William Large and Edna (Westfall) Large. He married Betty McFarland December 2, 1944 and she passed away September 12, 2001.
Wilbur worked at Texaco Refinery as a pipefitter for 34 years until retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrenceville, the American Legion and VFW. He served in the United States Army from 1944-1946. He was attached to the 30th Infantry Division and participated in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns, earning the Bronze Star.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, and one brother Wayne E. Large.
Survivors include one nephew Allen Large (Barbara) of Lawrenceville; two nieces Cathy Nolan of Dubuque, IA and Debbie Kirk (Bruce) of Streator, IL; one great-nephew Allen Large (Johanna) and their son Oliver Large; three great-nieces, Amy Large, Kelsey Nolan and Taylor Kirk; as well as one sister-in-law Mary Louise Large of Lawrenceville.
Visitation will be from 9 am to 10 am Thursday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.
Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
