Wendell Dee Stoltz, age 90, passed away peacefully at 5:15 pm on Good Friday, April 10, 2009 in Mattoon, IL with his two sons at his bed side.He was a resident of Gowin Parc at the time of this passing and had lived at Brookstone Estates in Mattoon nine years prior.Mr. Stoltz, a lifelong resident of the Sumner area, was born May 21, 1918 in Petty Tonwship the son of Frank and Carrie (McNeece) Stoltz. He married Helen Jane Leffler on Januarey 31, 1941. Dee worked as a tool dresser driller and later truck driver for Marathon Oil Company for forty-two years and farmed. He served in the Army Amphibious Core of Engineers, 593rd Engineer Boat and Shore Battalion from 1943-1945 in the New Guinea and Philippine campaigns. He was discharged as a tech 5. Dee was a member of the Sumner United Methodist Church and served as a Lay Minister for ten years at Olive Branch and Hopewell Churches. He was a lifelong member of the VFW. Dee and Helen were leaders for several years of the 4-H club south of Sumner.Survivors include two sons, John and wife Denise of Industry, IL and David and wife Darlene of Charleston, IL; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen Jane; daughter Elaine; three brothers and three sisters.The funeral will be Tuesday morning 11:00 am at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, IL.Friends may call Monday evening 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the Sumner United Methodist Church.
