Feb. 10, 1923- July 17, 2011
Ward Kingery Warner, prominent Lawrenceville banker and Allison Prairie farmer, died peacefully July 17, 2011 at his home in Lawrenceville where he has lived for nearly 60 years. He was 88 years old.
The son of Harry S. and Bertha Kingery Warner, he was born in Vincennes, Ind., on Feb. 10, 1923. He grew up on the Warner family farm on the Allison Prairie between Lawrenceville and Vincennes.
In 1940 he graduated from Lincoln High School in Vincennes. He began his university education at West Point and later graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in Geology and continued graduate work at the University of Illinois.
A WWII veteran, he was called to active duty in 1943. He was a reconnaissance sergeant in the Huertgen Forest Campaign in Germany in the 78th Infantry Division, called "Lightening Division," D Company, 311th Infantry Regiment. In late 1946 he came home after doing occupation duty in Berlin.
July 11, 1947 he married Margaret Applegate Glover, daughter of Karl A. Glover and Eliza A. Glover of Lawrenceville. They were married 64 years.
After WWII while attending the U of I., his father-in-law, Karl Glover,the president of the Peoples National Bank, offered him a position as bank teller. When he accepted, this began his fulfilling and successful career in banking which lasted over 40 years. He was the bank's president, CEO, member of the board of directors and president of the board when the Peoples National Bank was bought by the Old National Bank Corp. in 1987. His financial guidance, counseling and committed service to his clients and community were meaningful contributions to many people's lives. He retired in 1989 and continued to spend time on the family farm, to play golf and to travel with his dearest wife and family.
For 46 years he served his community as Lawrenceville City Treasurer. He was a long-time active member of the First Presbyterian Church and served on the church's session. He was a member of the B.P.O.E., Lawrence County Country Club and the V.F.W.
Ward K. Warner is survived by his wife, Margie; his three children, Rebecca, Andrew, Tamara; daughter-in-law, Karen, and his five grandsons, Adam and Logan Warner, Ward and Will Clark Farmer and Lucas Warner.
Above all, he was Margie's adored husband; a cherished and respected father; a proud Papaw; a dear uncle, cousin and true friend; a treasure to us all. He is God's beloved. We are so grateful for the blessing of his wonderful life.

A memorial service to remember and to celebrate Ward's life will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville with a fellowship hour at the church following the service.
