Virginia Mae May, 89, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the United Methodist Village-North Campus in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born May 31, 1929 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the daughter of Lyman and Leona (Farris) Harvey. She married Carl Thomas May on March 1, 1955 and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1992. Virginia was a 1947 graduate of LTHS and a lifelong resident of Lawrenceville. She was a homemaker and a lunch lady at Lincoln Grade School. She was a member of the 6th Street Wesleyan Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Carl; and one daughter, Carla Sakowicz. Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Shick and husband, John, of St. Francisville, Illinois; one son-in-law, Stephen Sakowicz and wife, Gena, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one brother, Wayne Harvey of Vincennes, Indiana; one sister, Velma Mettel and husband, Richard, of Martinsville, Indiana; six grandchildren, Jason Shick, Joni Wells and her husband Colton, Joe Sakowicz and his wife Kim, Kyle Sakowicz, Marc Sakowicz, and Robert Sakowicz; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the May Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lawrence County Cancer Resource Center & Wig Shoppe or the Lawrence County Senior Citizens.
