Virginia M. Akers, age 101, of rural Lawrenceville, IL, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at her residence. She was born October 28, 1911 in Mt. Crawford, Virginia, the daughter of John Edward and Nina Lula (Baker) Meyers.
Virginia worked at the Poland Motel, cleaning and doing various jobs. She also worked as a cook for the Sumner nursing home and the Lawrenceville Elks. Virginia was a member of the Island Free Methodist Church.
Preceding Virginia in death were her parents, one son Richard Akers, one daughter JoAnne Wells, eight brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include one son Robert (Millie) Akers of rural Lawrenceville, IL; one daughter Dorthy (Ray) Camp of Highland, IL; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Charlottsville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Island Free Methodist Church Food Pantry.
