Vernon D. Sires

Vernon D. Sires, age 94, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at his residence. He was born on August 26, 1929 in California. He married Delia ‘Rose’ Thornton on August 27, 1973, and she preceded him in death on November 05, 2020.

Vernon was a janitor, and retired from the Rancho Del Mar School System in California. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed fishing, doing lawn work, working on cars and planes, as well as surfing and being at the beach in his younger years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; one daughter, Christina Marie Saucedo; three brothers; two sisters; and one great-grandson, Markell Coleman.

Survivors include three children, Dan Cross of Lawrenceville, Illinois, John Wagner of Vincennes, Indiana, and Roscedia Sires of Lawrenceville, Illinois; six grandchildren, Michelle Cross, Dawn Cross, Christina Wagner, David Wagner, Brittney Saucedo, and James Saucedo; and six great-grandchildren, Marley Sires, Ashanti Coleman, Amiyah Swing, C.J. Cross, Marcus Harrison, and Ray’nah Sires.

A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, May 06, 2024 at 2:00 PM CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Monday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM CDT at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
