On March 21, 2026, Thomas Cellen Ford, 91, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.
Thomas was born on January 31, 1935, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, to Goldie and Thomas Zellen Ford. As a child, he was known for his playful spirit and pranks on his sisters, bringing laughter and energy to those around him. He attended Lawrenceville High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy as a third-class Gunner mate and then joined the Army National Guard, an experience that helped shape his strong work ethic and sense of dedication. He was also a dedicated member of the VFW, American Legion.
Tom spent many years working as a conductor on the B&O Railroad, a career that reflected his lifelong passion for trains. He later went on to start his own construction company, where he put his talent and craftsmanship to work. A true master of woodworking, Tom had a gift for creating with his hands and took great pride in everything he built.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Goldie and Thomas Ford and son Robert James Ford.
He shared a loving life with his wife, Edna Ford, and together they built a big, beautiful family. He is survived by his daughters, Connie McDonald (Bruce McDonald) and Jodie Ford (April Webber); as well as his grandchildren: Casey Shick (Mike Shick), Kyle Boatman (Jessica Boatman), Grant McDonald, Taylor Banks (Justin Banks), and Sydney Raedell Ford; as well as his great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren: Aubrey Powell (Hayden Powell), Bryce Bedwell, Haven Shick, Malikyle Williams, Claire Banks, Chloe Banks, Kaelin Boatman, Melanie Boatman, Emma Boatman; and his great-great grandchildren: Sutton Powell, Graham Powell.
Tom especially cherished his role as a grandfather. Whether spending time together, sharing stories, or simply enjoying each other’s company, those moments meant the most to him. His family will always remember his steady presence, his humor, and advice he gave so freely.
More than anything, he will be remembered as Etsie’s husband, a father, grandfather and great-great grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family forever.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 26, 2026, 1:00 p.m.at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. till the service hour of 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
