Thelma E. Crawford

Thelma E. Crawford, 100, of Lawrenceville, formerly of Sumner, IL passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the United Methodist Village North Campus. She was born on October 4, 1915 in Richland County, Illinois, the daughter of Orus William and Cora Mae (Staats) Piper.  She married Chester J. Crawford on September 23, 1938 and he preceded her in death on January 8, 1976. Thelma was a homemaker and a member of the Sumner United Methodist Church. She was very dedicated to her Lord and Savior.  Thelma enjoyed gardening, fishing, and mushroom hunting. One of her greatest passions was cooking and sharing what she made with others. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester; one daughter Nancy Parish and her husband Jim Parish; brothers and sisters, Burnis Piper, Ethel Shick, Chloe Highsmith, Reba Bealer, Ray O. Piper, Cecil Piper, Verna Lathrop, Carrol "Bill" Piper, Robert Piper; granddaughter, Anita Lynn Parish. Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Larry "Ed") Moan of Sumner, IL; grandchildren, Jimmie V. (Carolyn) Parish, Jodi A. Moan, and Scott E. (Kathy) Moan; great-grandchildren, Charlie Reed, Garyad Passmore, Dylan C. Moan, and Devan L. Moan; great great-grandchild Zaidyn Passmore. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, IL.  There will be visitation from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Cresthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Sumner United Methodist Church or Good Samaritan Hospice. Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
