Thelma L. Calvert

Thelma Lea Calvert Masengale, age 87, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born February 15, 1928, in Pinkstaff, Illinois, the daughter of Gilbert Wells and Clara (Highsmith) Wells. She married her first husband, Leon Calvert, on June 26, 1949, and he died June 26, 1987. She then married Jack Masengale in May of 1993 and he died May 26, 2006. Thelma graduated from Lawrenceville Township High School in 1945. She went to beauty school and worked at Marie's Beauty Shop for six years. Thelma then worked part-time so that she could be home with her children. She then returned to work at Chittick Optical as a receptionist for 27 years. Thelma was a member of First Christian Church where she served as Deacon and was in a Bible study group. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, enjoyed playing cards, Bunco, eating out, and loved to travel. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and both her first and second husbands. Survivors include her son, Mark Calvert and wife Jayne of Newton, Illinois; a daughter Marsha Thiel and her husband Les of Minneota, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Jerry Thiel of Milford, New Hampshire, Joshua Thiel of Manchester, New Hampshire, Jessica Hand of Aberdeen, Maryland, Ryan Calvert of Asheville, North Carolina and Erin Calvert of Effingham, Illinois; and five great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Thiel and Kourtney Thiel both of Milford, New Hampshire, Anthony Thiel of Manchester, New Hampshire, Jacob Hand, Julia Hand and Jazmine Hand all of Aberdeen, Maryland, and Kristina Lavoie of Elkin, North Carolina. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Sunday at the funeral Home. Burial will be in Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Lawrenceville.
