Thelma Grace Akin

Thelma Grace Akin, age 94, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Bridgepoint Healthcare in Vincennes, IN. She was born January 31, 1918, in Lukin Township in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Edwin and Estella Grace (Milligan) Schrader. She married Clarence Eugene Akin on April 30, 1939, and he died May 28, 1997. Thelma graduated from Bridgeport Township High School and attended the University of Illinois. She was her husband's business partner with Akin Seed Company. She was also a homemaker. Thelma was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church and was previously active in the Lawrenceville Garden Club, PEO, 4-H and Home Extension. She was an avid gardener and floral arranger. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence, two sons, John and David, one daughter, Anne Borgen and two brothers, Robert and Edwin Schrader. Survivors include one daughter, Janet Faro (Jack) of Lawrenceville, IL, one sister, Lillian Bates of Carlinville, IL, six grandchildren, Jim Faro, Ellen Edmonds, Mike Cleff, Chris Akin, Jamey Landry and Kelly Samson, and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church with burial in Zion Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church or the Lawrenceville Garden Club with envelopes available through the funeral home.
