Sue Ann Luthe, 77, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on September 6, 2026.
Sue was born May 26, 1949, to Charles and Erma Yoho Weger of Birds, Illinois.
She graduated from Eastern Illinois University, where she met her husband, Jim Luthe.
Sue was a teacher for 38 years, working the majority at Red Hill Community Unit School District #10. She loved teaching children to read and was an active member of the teachers’ union. During her long career, she taught generations of local families. Even years after her retirement, it was common for former students—or their children and grandchildren—to recognize her and tell the family that Mrs. Luthe had been their teacher.
Sue retired from teaching to help care for her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents, Charles and Erma Weger; and her brother, Tom Weger.
She is survived by her daughters, Allison Luthe Abiodun and Amanda Campbell, both of Indianapolis; her grandsons, Trajan and Parker Campbell, who called her “Mimi”; her brothers, David Weger and Alan (Deb) Weger of Flat Rock, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Library in care of the Lawrence Public Library District, 814 12th Street, Lawrenceville, Illinois 62439. Please specify that the donation is for the Summer Reading Program in memory of Sue Luthe.
Arrangements will be announced at a later date.
