Biography Sondra K. Schafer, 72, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born, February 11, 1942 in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of Albert and Leone (Mallett) Dailey. She married Jerry Kenneth Schafer on February 7, 1965 and he died April 2, 1978. Sondra worked for Red Hill School District for 38 years until her retirement. During those years, she taught Chapter I Reading, Adult Basic Education and homebound students. After retirement, she worked as a personal aide for special needs children. She also taught piano to many students. Sondra was a member of Central Christian Church in Sumner, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was baptized June 28, 1953 at Reel Avenue Christian Church in Vincennes, Indiana. Preceding Sondra in death were her parents, her husband Jerry, and one brother Larry Dailey. Survivors include two sons Brian Schafer (Melissa) of Sumner, Raymond Schafer of Lawrence County, two daughters Lisa Conrad (Troy) of Allendale, and Amy Schafer of Oblong, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 PM Saturday at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Allendale Cemetery in Allendale, Illinois.
