Selma Eileen Davis

September 11, 1953 — August 10, 2013

Selma Eileen Davis, age 59, of Lawrenceville, IL, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born September 11, 1953 in East St. Louis, IL, the daughter of Dorse and Methyl (Lytle) Bishop. Selma worked as a waitress at Montana Mike's in Vincennes, IN. Preceding Selma in death were her parents and one brother, Donald Bishop. Survivors include one daughter, Jada Bishop, of Lawrenceville, IL, one sister Sara Cavanagh and husband Edward of Houston, TX, and two grandchildren, Seth Hawkins and Sydney Russell. Selma spent her first nine years in an idyllic setting in Fairview Heights, Illinois, where she was free to run from the taunts of her big brother, Don, and endure the bedtime stories of her sister, Sara. Secretly she enjoyed them both. Selma moved to Port Lavaca, Texas, with her parents in1961, and then to Perth, Australia, where she developed a taste for strong, hot tea and Veggie Mite. After traveling around the continent, she settled in Mossman, Queensland where her daughter, Jada Eve, was born in1977. Selma soon returned to the U.S. where she resided in Texas, Kentucky, and Illinois. An inquisitive mind and quick intelligence led her to various studies, especially the Bible, reading a variety of literature, and playing MaJong with friends in Lawrenceville. The best part of her life was being Mom to Jada Eve and Granny to Seth Edward and Sydney Lee. Her friends in the small congregation, Beit Israel, were guides in her spiritual journey and very dear to her. Selma's love lives on in the hearts of her family and friends. Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 PM until the hour of service at 2 PM at the funeral home. A private burial will be in Berlin Cemetery in Oblong, IL at a later date.
