Samuel Ortin Wagner, age 77, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at his residence. He was born April 8, 1937 in Sumner, Illinois, the son of Ortin and Bernice (Butler) Wagner. He married Rebecca Maes on November 19, 1993, and she survives. Samuel served 20 years in the US Army. After his retirement from the service, he farmed, owned and operated his own truck driving service and served as road commissioner for Bonpas Township. He was a member of VFW. Preceding Samuel in death were his parents and one sister, Jackie Wagner. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca, of Lawrenceville; one son Randy Wagner (Roberta) of Montezuma, Indiana; one daughter Teresa Wilson (Jim) of Casey, Illinois; one brother-in-law James Maes of Espanola, New Mexico; four sisters-in-law Loretta Sanchez of Hernandez, New Mexico, Lucille Chacon of Hernandez, New Mexico, Anita Maes of Hernandez, New Mexico and Loyola Marrufo of Arroyo Seco, New Mexico; four grandchildren Brian McVeigh, Darren Wagner, Dustin Chapman, and Tanner Wilson, and two great-grandchildren Lucas and Brock McVeigh. A special great-nephew, David Miller, of Lawrenceville also survives. Samuel's body is being cremated. Private family services will be conducted at a later date.
