Ruth Irene Thomas, 80, of Calhoun, Illinois passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at her residence. She was born June 4, 1937 in Humboldt Township, Michigan, the daughter of Wilho and Elsie (Pelto) Niemi. She was married to Lonnie Thomas for 40 plus years and he survives. Ruth retired from Champion Laboratory after working there for 20 years and was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Berryville Christian Church. She loved watching western movies and was a Nascar fan. Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Ronald Niemi and James Niemi; and two sisters, Joyce Saxton and Carol Paulson. Survivors include her husband, Lonnie; one daughter, Kay Mundhenk and husband, Dewayne, of Oblong, Illinois; two sisters, Melba Sandel of Chapin, South Carolina and Marlene Morris of Irma, South Carolina; one brother-in-law, Marion Thomas; two sisters-in-law, Annette Runyon and Minnie Thomas; one grandchild, Brad Chillingworth and fiancé, Chrissy Jenkins; two step-grandchildren, Catrina Fast and husband, Ronnie, and Matthew Mundhenk; three great-grandchildren, Xander Chillingworth, Ryan Hilderbrand, and Kayla Hilderbrand; and special life-long friend, Marie Thomas. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:00 PM CST at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery.
