Ruth V. Nead Fields, age 92, of Lawrenceville, passed March 1, 2015, in Vincennes, Indiana. Ruth was born March 16, 1922, in Independence, Indiana, to Rev. Wayman and Rhoda (Vandeveer) Ott.
She attended her first grades of school in Louisville, Kentucky, where her father Rev. Ott was pastoring at Union Gospel Mission Church. Rev. Ott moved his family to Illinois. Ruth attended grade school in Bridgeport and a few years later moved to Lawrenceville where she attended high school and graduated in 1941. She married Homer Nead and they attended the Lawrenceville Free Methodist Church, where they were very active members for over 50 years. Ruth served as Missionary President, Jr. Director, song leader and program director.
During World War II, Ruth became an Army wife, living near Camp Stewart and Camp Edward prior to Homer being deployed to Germany for four years.
Ruth continued her education at Olney Central College and spent several years in nursing-the last 12 years before retiring taking care of patients at the United Methodist Village, Lawrenceville Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer, in 1993; her two sisters, Elgie Larson and Velma Lucas; and a grandson, Bradley Nead.
She married Grant Fields in 1997, and he preceded her in death in 2013.
Ruth is survived by her two sons, M. James (Karen) Nead of Vincennes, Indiana and Melvin (Janis) Nead of Bloomington, Indiana and one daughter, Pamela K. Kiser of Bedford, Indiana; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, 1 PM (CST) at the Lawrenceville Free Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Friday from 10 AM until the service hour of 1 PM (CST) at the church.
Burial will be in Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
