Biography Ronald Lee Piper, age 69, of rural Sumner passed away Thursday, September 14, 2011 at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel, IL. Born October 21, 1941 in Lawrence County, IL the son of Cecil Roy and Dorothy Mae (Acton) Piper. He married Lila Mae Earnest May 20, 1962 and they were married 49 years. Ronald worked in industrial maintenance and had worked at AMF, Roadmaster, Johnson Controls and Quebecor in Flora until retirement. He was a member of Whitehouse Christian Church where he served as an Elder. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Carol Ann Heath, and one grandson Seth T. Piper. Survivors include his wife Lila of rural Sumner; two sons Ronald L Piper, Jr (Heather) of Romney, IN and Robin Roy Piper (Lesley) of Lafayette, IN; two daughters Rebecca Mae Cook (Clark) of Bridgeport and Roberta Ann Edgington (Philip) of Calhoun, IL; six brothers Cecil Eugene Piper (Carolyn) of Olney, James Roy Piper (Sharon) of Lawrenceville, John Edward Piper (JoAnn) of Sumner, David Paul Piper (Twila) of rural Lawrenceville, Robert Larry Piper (Kathy) of Bridgeport, Buddy Joe Piper (RaDonna) of Laurel, MS; two sisters Cleora May Gillespie-Weger of rural Flat Rock and Dorothy Louise Laughlin of Bridgeport; a brother-in-law Tom Heath (Debbie) of rural Bridgeport; eight grandchildren Matthew D. Piper (Elise), Sean T. Piper, Tiffany M. Cook, Christina M. Cook Shepard (Chris), Alisha N. Piper, Joshua T. Piper, Christopher W. Persinger, and Jessica A. Persinger; five step-grandchildren Curtis B. Persinger, August W. Verhey, Avery W. Verhey, Cherokee P. Edgington, Faith M. Edgington Fifer (Caleb); and one great-grandson Tristan William May. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Oblong Children's Home with envelopes available at the funeral home.
