Ronald J. Mahaffey

Ronald J. Mahaffey, age 82, passed away on January 5, 2026, in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was born on December 21, 1943, in Asheville, North Carolina. He lived a life defined by service, laughter, hard work, and a deep love for family, community, and country.

Ronald proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, entering service in 1962. A Vietnam veteran, he dedicated his life to military service and retired after many years of honorable and faithful duty. He deeply loved his country and took great pride in his service, which remained one of the defining commitments of his life.

Ronald never met a stranger and will be remembered for his sense of humor, infectious smile, and ability to make others feel welcome. He believed in treating people with respect and integrity.

In his personal life, Ronald enjoyed gardening, Harley motorcycles, and relaxing with a glass of Wild Turkey. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures and valued time spent with family and friends.

Ronald is survived by his son, Patrick (Holly) Mahaffey and grandchildren Seth, Hayley, and MaKayla Mahaffey; his daughter, Stephanie Reed and granddaughter, Logen Reed; and his niece, Megan (Jerrod) Taylor, along with grandnieces and grandnephews Harlan, Lewis, and Ivy Taylor.

Ronald wishes were to be cremated.

No formal services will be conducted.
