Robert Tykal

Robert Henry “Bob” Tykal, age 64, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours at the home of his sister on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was born on January 19, 1961 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the son of Richard L. Tykal and Marcella Ivers Tykal.

Robert, fondly known to his friends as “Bob,” was a graduate of Culver Military Academy, where he formed many lifelong friendships. He was the co-owner of Tykal’s American Tavern where he spent hours serving drinks, food, and live entertainment to loyal patrons and new friends alike. Bob was well known for his warm personality and sense of humor. In his youth, Bob enjoyed riding his bicycle and playing golf, baseball, and basketball. As an adult, he continued his love of golf, enjoyed mushroom hunting, and was an avid sports fan. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends. On Friday, October 24, Bob and his sister, Janet, reaffirmed their faith in Christ through baptism, a meaningful and cherished moment for them both.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Diane Tykal.

Survivors include his children: Andrea Dehler of Belleville, Illinois, Brette Smith of Collinsville, Illinois, Katy Dutton of Seattle, Washington, and Dawn Patton of Springfield, Illinois; his grandchildren: Tessa, Mia, Anna Grace, Ian, Evelyn Quinn, Hudson Thomas, Blake Larene, and Hunter; his sister, Janet Tykal; and nephews: Andrew Jakubowski, Curtis Simmons and Clayton Simmons.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 1 at 1:00 PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
