Robert 'Ray' R. Alford

Robert R. "Ray" Alford, age 91, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born June 3, 1924, in Lawrenceville, the son of Arnold and Leona (Crawford) Alford. He married Virginia Finley on May 3, 1946, and she passed away May 2, 2012. Ray worked for Dow Chemical and Consolidated Aluminum in Madison, Illinois,. He worked there for 31 years until his retirement. Ray was a American Veteran, having served with the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Merrill's Marauders in Burma. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; two brothers and six sisters. Survivors include a son, Robert R. Alford, Jr. and his wife Joyce; three brothers, Don Allen of Indiana, Carl Alford of Greenville, Illinois and Gary Alford of Lawrenceville, Illinois; four sisters, Vera Stevens of Lawrenceville, Shirley Woodruff of Lawrenceville, Phyllis Darded of Mississippi; and Mildred Proffitt of Granite City, Illinois; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday at May Chapel Cemetery.
