Robert W. Johnson

Robert W. Johnson, age 73, of St. Francisville, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born August 28, 1952, in Vincennes, Indiana, the son of Randolph Johnson and Frances Garvey Johnson. He married Janet Freshour March 7, 1987, and she preceded him in death February 24, 2015.

Bob was a lifelong farmer whose work and dedication to agriculture defined much of his life. Alongside his brother, Wayne, he proudly operated Johnson Farms for many years. A graduate of St. Francisville High School, Bob was deeply committed to serving his community. He was a member of the Denison Fire Protection District for 50 years, where he also served as a trustee, and was a 40-year member of the St. Francisville American Legion. He served on the St. Francisville City Improvement Council, was a commissioner for three local ditch districts, and was an active member of the Farm Bureau.

Bob's generosity and community spirit were evident in the many ways he gave back. For more than 30 years, he provided fireworks displays for community events, made the Denison Fire Department's annual Labor Day chowder, and enjoyed hosting family and friends for memorable hog roasts. He also coached baseball in St. Francisville and played on an adult softball team, sharing his love of sports with others. An avid NASCAR fan, attending many different races with friends, Bob's greatest passion on the farm was trucking and planting, and he could often be found enjoying a meal at Texas Roadhouse.

Known for his patience, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others, Bob was truly community-minded and touched the lives of many. His grandchildren will fondly remember the time they spent with him on the farm, sitting by the pool, and at the American Legion, where he quietly taught them valuable life lessons through his example. His legacy of hard work, service, and devotion to his family and community will be cherished by all who knew him.

Survivors include: children, Sommer (John) Phipps of Bridgeport and Lucas Johnson of Bridgeport, Illinois; sibling, Wayne (Cheryl) Johnson of St. Francisville; sister-in-laws, Sherri (John) Frederick of St. Francisville, and Mary Alice Martin of Inez, Texas; grandchildren, Auston (Cassie Daugherty) Phipps, Landon Phipps and Lainey Phipps.
